Monday October 28
Orientation at Na’atik
Spanish or Maya Classes
Maya Janal Pixán ceremony:
Spend the evening learning about the Maya concepts of death and afterlife, with traditional food and drink
Tuesday October 29
Vist a beautiful Maya cenote
Help set up a ceremonial altar at the Raxalaj Maya spiritual center
Guided evening tour of the Dia de Muertos events in the town parque, including ofrendas in different styles from all over Mexico
Wednesday October 30
Day trip to the Maya community of Uh May to experience traditonal pib (earthen oven) cooking and Janal Pixán altar construction. Delicious local Maya lunch included
Thursday October 31
Spanish or Maya clases at Na’atik
Learn to make pan de muerto (bread of the dead) and calveritas (decorated sugar skulls)
Friday November 01
Spanish or Maya clases at Na’atik
Vist a Maya stingless bee sanctuary and learn about the Maya melipona tradition with resident bee expert
Saturday November 02
Visit a secluded Maya jungle lagoon
Visit a cooperative to hand print your own t-shirts with designs from a local artist
See the local Janal Pixan parade (date not yet confirmed by local organizer)
